Inside of a private studio of E-Wrestling News, there are two couches set across from each other with a table between both of them. The lighting is well placed for the center of the studio where the center of attraction will be; Denzel Porter sits on one couch and is dressed professionally. Denzel opens with a greeting.
Denzel Porter: Thank you for tuning in on this day, and I do have a special guest here with me: a Mega star and Icon in Pro Wrestling, a trailblazer in the wrestling industry, and, of course, one of the most polarizing figures in this industry; she’s also one of the most talented wrestlers in the industry and the winner of The last TRIAD TRIALS Please give The Hyena Vhodka Black a warm welcome ladies and gentlemen.
Vhodka steps out from a doorway that leads to the backstage area behind the set, she smiles and waves both hands in the air excitedly at the crowd who seems to be mixed in their reactions to her. She is dressed casually in a pair of distressed leather pants and a thin white t-shirt that seems to have more holes than material at this point. But most importantly, around her neck glimmers a large golden piece of the Triad, twinkling in the set lights as she leans in to give Denzel a hug before stepping back to sit on the couch.
Vhodka Black: Wow! I feel like it’s been forever since we saw each other! You’re looking great these days.
Denzel gives a bright smirky smile as they both settle down on the couch.
Denzel Porter: Thank you V and yes It has been a long time since we've been face to face but I am so happy to have you here today for this interview and I must say I think this is going to be a fan favorite for a lot of people as much as it is for me.
Denzel gives a quick wink to the camera.
Denzel Porter: Now before we dive into everything TRIAD-related, would you mind telling the people how you became the Icon we know today, how did Vhodka Black get her start in the industry?
Vhodka reaches up and absentmindedly strokes the pendant around her neck as she considers the question.
Vhodka Black: Well that all goes back to a man that you’re very familiar with, Damon “Havok” Riggs. On my eighteenth birthday I went out to the city to this bar called The Dusty Clam. So, I get there and I’m just sort of hanging out and watching this gorgeous brunette over at the pool table who is hustling a bunch of bubba’s under the table, right?
Vhodka leans forward towards Denzel, shifting on the couch.
Vhodka Black: Anyway, I go to the bathroom which is just like this glorified closet and I’m sitting there doing my business when the brunette bursts in the room a minute before one of the rednecks she’s been ripping off follows her in just screaming at the top of his lungs. Anyway, long story short, this whole situation devolves into sort of a bar fight as the redneck is chasing the brunette trying to get back the money she’s pocketed not realizing that she’s there with her brother and his best friend, Damon Riggs. One thing led to another and they ended up taking me under their wing and got me started the business. That’s also coincidentally how I got my name. The brunette, Alexis Austin, hands me a bottle of vodka during this brawl and tells me to hit anything that gets near us, and literally the first guy I hit is Damon not realizing that he’s on our side.
Vhodka laughs embarrassedly along with the crowd before turning back to Denzel.
Vhodka Black: I have to say, I probably would have hit him harder if I knew then what I know now looking back. But that’s how I ended up becoming a wrestler, just dumb luck.
Denzel smirks from amusement at the story told as he sits up straight on the couch.
Denzel Porter: You have a very unique story Vhodka most people in the wrestling business were fans and were already looking to get into the business but you were different, wrestling just happened to find you and I am happy to say it did much like your fans and supporters are because you have certainly blessed us with your talents. Giving us so many great moments to remember over the years as you piled up accomplishments, but would you say that shiny TRIAD pendant that you wear around your neck is your proudest accomplishment so far?
Vhodka instinctively reaches up and fiddles with the pendant hanging around her neck.
Vhodka Black: You know, I hate to say that any one specific thing would be my proudest moment. I’ve done a lot in my career and each one of those accomplishments has been incredibly important to not only my career but also to me on a deeply personal level. They’re all stepping stones on a path so to speak and you need all of the individual steps to get to the destination. I am incredibly proud that the universe saw something in me that allowed me to even find and retrieve this piece of the Triad when so many people like Marcus Welsh and others have failed throughout history. But I absolutely could not have done it without the support of my friends and family. The glory is as much theirs as it is mine. Oh and also, some thanks is due to my Uncle Earl who was an invaluable member of the team. We couldn’t have done it without his taxidermied corpse.
The crowd laughs as Denzel smiles as he shakes his head in understanding.
Denzel Porter: That is an excellent way of looking at things Vhodka, I've had many answers to that question, and most of them have always picked one over the other, and nothing wrong with that all but the way you look at each accomplishment as an important step of life is brilliant.
Denzel then takes a drink of water as he reads over some notes before turning his attention back to Black.
Denzel Porter: Now let's talk about the brilliance of TRIAD, such a unique concept in today's industry that I can really only compare it to FIGHT! The people in charge have really built something special that keeps the world Tweeting away at it but for those unfamiliar with TRIAD and what an honor it is to have that Pendant, can you explain to the people what makes TRIAD stand out?
Vhodka Black: I think to explain what makes the Triad unique in our business you have to first understand what The Triad is. In the most “Triad For Dummies” way I can explain it, basically there is this ancient relic that has been split into three pieces and hidden in different parts of the world. The legends say that whoever finds these three pieces and unites them together again will either have untold power beyond anything most of us could ever imagine, or it might possibly unleash a plague of curses on the world that dooms all of humanity.
Vhodka smiles as the crowd murmurs nervously.
Vhodka Black: Don’t worry! So far, nothing weird like that has happened yet. I mean, aside from the natural disasters, demonic possessions and dilapidated ghost ships rising up from the Bermuda Triangle in the last round of the Trials. Anyway, to be able to find and retrieve these individual pieces you have to exemplify the traits of bravery, strength and wit. Clearly, Welsh, TLS and PIC didn’t stack up so they went back to what they knew and decided to use their contacts in the professional wrestling world to hopefully find someone who could find and unite these three pieces in next year's Great Illuminatus. So as you can see, this goes beyond just the professional wrestling matches and title belts you have in any other place in this business. In theory, the fate of humanity rests in the hands of whoever ultimately unites these three pieces.
Denzel looks intrigued as he looks into the camera.
Denzel Porter: Well I am thrilled that you have one of those pieces in your position right now and hopefully you will retrieve more going forward but who do you think is the biggest threat in this hunt for immortality?
Vhodka hardly lets Denzel finish before blurting out her answer.
Vhodka Black: Oh, Marcus Welsh, without a doubt. I didn’t get into the Trials because I cared about immortality or power or anything else. To be honest, I’m not even sure I buy into all this lore they’re trying to sell everyone. I’m doing this because it amuses me, introducing a little chaos into things just tickles my funny bone in a way not much else does. But Welsh, that guy believes everything he’s selling and there’s a reason he feels like he needs unimaginable power, whatever that reason may be, one thing is certain, I plan to do everything in my power to ensure that he never achieves it. Not because I fear what he would do with it, honestly the man is a moron, but because I just really enjoy pissing in his Wheaties.
Denzel looks surprised at her answer and then chuckles a bit before straightening himself back up.
Denzel Porter: Well I'm sure Welsh will not like the sound of that but in a competition like this one has to guess its best to have friends and alliances much like the Triumvirate, tell me how you think that's going so far and if you can see it lasting?
Vhodka Black: The Triumvirate is more than just your typical business alliance.I know that’s what everyone in this line of work says, but in our case it’s true. The three of us are bound together by more than just a common goal or some flimsy excuse of friendship. The three of us share something that can’t be duplicated and for better or worse, it can’t be broken. I think in that way, we’ll always come back to each other in the end. But as for the Trial’s specifically? We dominated the first set of the Bravery Trial’s with ease and it’s clear that the fans want to see more of the most dominant group this industry has ever seen. Who are we to deny that?
Denzel nods his head in agreement.
Denzel Porter: A lot of alliances claim to be the best and most dominant but the difference I see is you mean it and you have been showing it so far in the TRIAD and I look forward to seeing if you can continue that performance but let's talk about how you think your peers in the Trials perceive you and your alliance so far?
Vhodka tilts her head in thought, casting a quick sideways glance at the audience.
Vhodka Black: People were certainly not happy with the three of us going into business for ourselves. Which, like, I’m not even sure why people got so upset about it, you know? I never betrayed anyone on my team, I didn’t betray my coach. TLS drafted me and gave me the task of retrieving the first piece of the Triad by any means necessary and that’s what I did. You’d think he’d be more grateful about it. As for the others, I speak for myself as well as Sarah and Stratford when I say that we don’t really care what they think of us or our methods. We didn’t get where we are in this business by following the rules and we don’t intend to start now. The sooner everyone else smartens up and starts looking out for their own interests, the better off they’ll be.
Vhodka pauses and readjusts the pendant around her neck before continuing.
Vhodka Black: If my retrieval of the first piece taught them anything at all it should be that these coaches are not looking out for your best interests. They see us as tools, pawns in a game that they can manipulate and use to their own advantage. If everyone else is okay with that then that’s on them, but don’t be mad at us because we won’t allow ourselves to be used and discarded in someone else's pursuit of power.
Denzel Porter: Excellent point, in my professional opinion pro wrestling, has always been a cutthroat business for the most part and when you add in what's at stake in the Trials it makes things that much more cutthroat, so looking out for yourself is a great investment and speaking of investment I was looking over the SPORTBOOK odds for the next Trials and right now I believe you have the best odds to walk away again as the winner, how do you feel about that?
Vhodka smiles, sheepishly ducking her head in what is clearly faux humility.
Vhodka Black: I mean, I’ve already proven I have what it takes to get the job done so I think that the odds are pretty spot on. You know what they say, always bet on Black.
Denzel Porter: Always good betting advice but before I get you out of here do you have any last words for those in the trials and maybe for those trying to make their way into the trials?
Vhodka leans back, glancing at the crowd with a smile.
Vhodka Black: Create your own destiny.
Denzel Porter: We’ll there you have it folks, straight from the winner’s mouth but that’s all the time we have for this BreakingNews Interview , tune in next time to see who I sit down with and once again thank you Vhodka Black for coming on the show to speak with me, it truly was an honor.
Denzel gives Vhodka a handshake and standing ovation as she walks off stage and the show fades into the dark with the BreakingNews logo as the last image we see.
