By now I'm sure most of you have had time to view the video that was posted to our X account earlier today, and as such, there are likely questions that need answered. This post is an attempt to do just that.
First, like with any other iteration of TRIAD we've had, the goal is to get the maximum participation from the people who WANT to participate. We've tried various methods of a "second chance" for non-drafted folks, but the sting of going undrafted can sometimes leave a bitter taste and ultimately discourage some from participating.
Enter the NEW Tribulations.
How does it work?
Everyone will enlist for the Trials like always. Whether there are 30 or 100, all have an equal opportunity to be drafted to one of the 3 teams and 12 available spots in the Trials. However, unlike before, we will give the opportunity to ANYONE who has already enlisted to OPT OUT of the Trials and OPT IN to the Tribulations. The first 12 competitors to do so will be guaranteed a spot in the Tribulations, no questions asked. The rest will continue to be draft eligible for the Trials as usual.
Now, for the fun part.
The Tribulations this time start with those 12 competitors, each writing 1 rp for the first round of Tribulations. After those rps, we will grade them as normal, and select the bottom 3 rps to put up for elimination. We will ask the Trib participants to vote for 1 of those 3 they wish to save, while the other 2 are removed from competition. (semi-Survivorish) All of this will be announced on the bi-weekly TRIAD Radio show.
This process continues until after the fourth Tribulation, where only FOUR participants will remain.
Those four go to the Wit PPV, and the winner of that match will win a spot in the Great Illuminatus.
-----------
Who might benefit more from this format? Maybe someone who isn't sure if they'll get drafted but definitely wants to participate. Or someone who has a story to tell and hopes to have 4 weeks + the ppv to tell it. Maybe someone who doesn't like the team aspect or would prefer just going it alone; someone who already has a key to the Illuminatus and doesn't want to steal a spot from someone else. Or maybe just someone who wants something different altogether.
With this new Tribulations format, the Trials are going OG back to their roots. 12 people, 3 teams. So combined, 24 handlers can participate in one way or another. The catch though, is if you don't opt in for the Tribs, you run the risk of being left out altogether.
Also, because I'm sure it will be asked, only ONE character per handler will be able to participate across both 'shows'. So while we are fine with you enlisting with 2, 3, or 800 characters, if you opt into the Tribs with one of them, the other 799 are automatically removed from draft eligibility.
Is it convoluted? Yeah. Will it take a minute to digest? Probably. Will Sahara read this? Of course not.
If you have other questions, feel free to respond here and I'll try to address them publicly so there isn't any misinformation.
And again, I can't stress enough, we try to innovate because we think it's cool, but ultimately it's just about expanding the universe and including as many of you awesome writers as we can. We appreciate everything you do to help us build this wacky TRIAD world.
