On Sunday morning, scans of a hand-written letter and envelope purported to be from “(untitled)” were posted. The letter was written on stationary from Musée d'Orsay in Paris, France, although the envelope contains a postmark from Pétange, Luxembourg. The message accompanying the scans of the letter indicates that “(untitled)” handed the letter to a known associate to send on their behalf. At that point, it was mailed from Pétange to Bruges, Belgium. From there, it was scanned and posted. It is not known where “(untitled)” passed the letter to the anonymous mailer, but it was confirmed to not actually be at Musée d'Orsay.
As the letter is written in French, a translation to English has been provided below.

Greetings to the organizers, and to my fellow hopeful competitors. I hope you had a comforting holiday season.
Soon shall be the time in which our fates will be decided, as the draft will come for the Wit Trials. As I review the roster of those eligible for selection, I see a great deal of formidable talent. Such strong curriculum vitaes amongst the talent who have rendered themselves willing to compete, yes? Many who see the Wit Trials, and the hopes to assemble the TRIAD, as another notch on their belt. Another piece of glory to be bound together, like so much leather and gold.
I admire their competitive desires. It does my heart well to know that there is such inspiration in the field.
And yet, I stand in the field as a mystery, do I not? No accomplishments to list, no tournaments to speak of where my hand was raised in glory. Perhaps I should be passed over, turned away, left in the cold. Many outsiders would see this as a suitable conclusion, upon review of all available options. At first glance, grace and beauty is all that art can provide, and that is not an appropriate thing to bring to a competition.
But we do not make selections based on first glances, do we?
There is a stark difference between assembling the TRIAD for another line on one’s résumé, and assembling it to find their own freedom in a world that does not know how to accept them. Freedom to live a life outside of a gallery, free from the gawking eyes of those who look at art and do not allow it to be anything more. Freedom to be something other than what we have become.
For many of you, you fight to be heralded as a champion once more. In most situations, that pursuit is noble, but it is moot here.
For me, I wish to fight in the TRIAD for something else.
I wish to fight for my freedom to be like you.
In love and art,
