So I was walking through the streets of America's greatest city, the birthplace of our Nation Philadelphia and a kid came up to me. He recognized me from all of the promotional material that the Trials has been putting out everyone. On the internet, at the local food banks, some churches. Everywhere. It was a new experience for me. Somewhat of a shock if I am being honest as I've spent most of my life trying to fly under the radar and now here I am, my "face" smack dab in the middle of some companies promotional material. It's wild I tell ya.
Anyway, the young boy, couldn't be more than 10 or 11 asked me a bunch of questions as I strolled around God's favorite city, the city of Brotherly and Sisterly love. He asked what my favorite football team was, the Eagles, obviously. Any other answer in this city is basically a declaration of war. He asked me if I had any siblings, which I declined to answer. Asked where I lived, which I answered in a vague way that seemed to satisfy the boys curiosity while also obfuscating my home's location. We must have walked about 8 or 9 city blocks before we parted but not before he asked for my autograph. I gave him one and then a second one so he could sell it on Ebay. I hear people do that these days. I don't imagine my signature will get him more than a couple bucks but it's the summer time and if my signature can afford the future of America a nice snow cone on a hot summers day than I consider it my Patriotic duty to sign a random sheet of paper for a young man.
Anywho, this exchange with this young boy got me to thinking, about my time in the military. About being overseas fighting for America. Except I wasn't really fighting for America. I was fighting for greedy cowards who believe in nothing but the almighty dollar. See that's the lie they don't tell you about when they come to your schools or when you stumble into one of those strip mall Enlistment Centers. They sell you on free college, on traveling the world, on doing your duty for God and Country but they leave out the part about how your country abandons you when you come home. If you come home. They leave out the part that no God would ever want to subject his people to the atrocities of war. They leave out so much and in the end they leave you too. Now that is not to say that no one should sign up for the military. There are plenty of people out there who cream themselves at the thought of being handed a gun and a human target and being told which direction to point and shoot. Those are the people that should be in the military and believe me there are plenty of them. But for the people who are looking for a way to get a free education or to see the world. I suggest doing both another way the military is a lie. I had to learn that the hard way while so many of my friends never got the chance to learn it at all. I still see them, still hear them at night. What I do now, I do for them. I carry their memory with me everywhere I go.
All of this might make it sound like I hate America. I don't. I have a very specific view of what I believe America should be. It's not for everyone. Not for the folks on the left, or the folks on the right, more for the people down the middle. And there are a lot more of us than you might realize. But I believe in an America where people are free to live their lives how they want to, so long as they are not physically, emotionally or mentally harming others. I believe in the righteous power of my Lord and Savior. I believe there is a place in America for him but I do not believe that he should be used as a tool for people to push their religious beliefs on others or as a tool to influence public policy. In other words I believe very strongly in the separation of Church and State. Everyone should have the freedom to practice their religion as they see fit. Or to practice no religion at all if they wish. After all, this country was founded on the notion of religious freedom. Something too many people have forgotten these days.
I believe very strongly in the Second Amendment. People have a right to own guns, even assault rifles. I don't understand why your average Jane and Joe need to own one except for stupid photos on Twitter but if they want one they should be able to own one. So long as they pass background checks, receive actual training and store their guns somewhere that their children can't take them and use them at a school or to show off to their friends. I believe politicians no longer get into the business, and that is what congress is now a business, I don't believe they get into the business to help people anymore. They get into the business to make money at the expense of us common folk. It's disgusting. The entire system needs to be torn down and built a new.
And that is why I want to be part of The Trials. I'm done living in the dark. It's time that I bring my brand of humanity, vision and violence into the light. It's time I ignite the flame that is the long lost American Dream because I am MERICA.
Oh and to the parents of the young boy you let wander the streets of a major American city with a complete stranger, do better. You never know what kind of weirdos are out there.
