“You know I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t…desperate.”
Marcus Welsh lowers his head. Desperation might be putting it lightly.
A tall, menacing figure lurks in the background.
“Realistically, can your team win?”
“No.”
“What about Maurako’s spot? Can he at least win Team Welsh?”
“No.”
The figure laughs. Welsh turns around but receives a rough shoulder as the figure storms past him. The impact spins Welsh around.
“Wait…” the man lingers as Welsh struggles to cough the words up, “Watson’s key. I can offer Watson’s key.”
That resonates. The figure turns around revealing themselves to be Matt Knox. “I’m listening.”
“If you agree to join Team Welsh for the final two events…I’ll give you Watson’s key if you manage to win the final two matches.”
Knox has never lacked for confidence. He’s also never lacked for knowing when an opportunity to exploit someone presents itself, “First and…second. Just to cover for the inevitable bullshit that comes with anything you three put your fingerprints on..”
Welsh glares at Knox. He looks down at his screen with his incomplete team standing a far cry away from Teams TLS and PIC. “Fine. First and at least second in your final two matches.”
“Not specifically in that order.”
Welsh’s jaw tightens, “Fine. Not specifically in that order.”
Knox smiles and extends his hand. Welsh looks at it and takes it. “You should’ve just drafted me from the start.”
Welsh winces as Knox tightens the grip a bit before letting his hand go.
“Mistakes were made. Let’s just finish strong. C’mon, let’s go meet your new team.”
