Sid Buckley III’s Draft Grades
Another draft is in the books. It’s time to hand out grades to each team for their haul. It was an eventful draft, more or less as expected at the top of the draft, and a couple surprises in the second half. For those keeping score, yours truly correctly paired 8 of 12 to the right team. You don’t become a draft expert overnight, kids.
Team Welsh
Round 1: Stephen Stratford
Round 2: Thad Duke
Round 3: Sarah Wolf
Round 4: Alexander Raven
Welsh swung for the fences in round 1 with Stephen Stratford, a swing that may produce a homerun. The value of Duke at the end of round 2 is impossible to overlook, a potential winner at #6. Wolf is a very intriguing prospect in the third round, and Raven may have been the best value of the entire draft. Overall, an incredible draft.
Grade: A
Team TLS
Round 1: Vhodka Black
Round 2: LC Pinkston
Round 3: Helena Handbasket
Round 4: MERICA
I narrowly had Black as the top overall prospect here. Landing her second overall was great for TLS. Pinkston in round two is exactly what I predicted, giving him another threat to win it all. Handbasket was in and out of mocks during the process, possibly a bit of a reach here, maybe would have been available with his next pick. The real surprise came near the end of the draft, taking the little know MERICA in the fourth round. Sometimes, you just need to trust your gut, and TLS did. Still, a hard team to evaluate.
Grade: B
Team PIC
Round 1: Catalina Cortes
Round 2: Matt Knox
Round 3: Penelope
Round 4: Lachlan Kane
PIC started off with two first round talents at picks 3 and 4 in Cortes and Knox, as dangerous a duo as you’ll find in this competition. The Penelope pick could payoff big, a leader with loyal followers and the potential to go on a run here. Wrapping up the draft with Kane made a lot of sense. A high upside competitor with values that align with the team captain. This is a dangerous team.
