It’s a sunny day in Miami, Florida. Marcus Welsh stands inside a building, leaning up against a glass window. His eyes, covered via aviator shades observe a crowd that is steadily growing in size. His hands are in the pockets of his white pants with a black, cotton button up shirt untucked. Sleeves rolled up, the guy looks like he’s enjoying being back in Florida. We close in, staring at his shades. Via the reflective lens, we get a view of what’s taking place outside. A giant truck is backing up with the TRIAD logo on the side. The people standing around start to cheer.
“TRIAD! TRIAD! TRIAD!”
Welsh can’t suppress his smile. A few workers exit the truck, opening the back. Together they begin to remove tools. Then posts. And, after that, ropes. Pink, blue, and white ropes. The fans pop. We’re getting our first look at a TRIAD wrestling ring.
“TRIAD! TRIAD! TRIAD!”
A door opens and Leo enters, breaking Welsh’s focus. He stands upright and removes his shades.
“Ring is here!”
“I can see that.”
Welsh walks past Leo, exiting the building. Leo follows. The people gathered around are buzzing with excitement as bit by bit the Triad ring equipment is unloaded. The TRIAD logo is visible on the side of the truck. Welsh makes his way through the people. It doesn’t take long for them to recognize him.
“That’s Marcus Welsh!”
“OMG! Marcus! Photograph, please!”
“Marcus, PURGE ME!!!”
That one gets him. He turns and sees a woman in her twenties, throwing herself at him. Leo’s eyes widen.
“Are you going to purge her?”
He hesitates…she walks up to him, thrusting her body into his. He takes his hand, pie faces the woman, and shoves her back, “I’m too busy to purge.”
Welsh marches away as she falls back into the crowd like she’s just been blessed.
They make their way to the crew unloading the ring. “Hey, you,” Welsh gets the attention of the man directing the unloading, “where you guys taking this stuff?”
“That’s top secret.”
“You can tell me, I’m part of the Triad.”
“What’s your name?”
Marcus looks side to side and leans in to whisper his name like he’s some rockstar in hiding, “I’m Marcus. Marcus Welsh.”
“Yea, you’re not on the list. Come back with PIC or TLS and then we can talk.”
Welsh’s face turns bright red. Leo steps in, “Yo.”
“Leo, my man!” The employee reaches out and slaps hands with THE LEO. “What you been up to?”
“Oh you know, little of this, little of that.”
“Right on, right on.”
“So, where you guys setting all this shit up?”
“Ah man, over on Lummus Park Beach. Place is fuckin divine. White sand. Blue water. Palm trees. This layout is going to be SICK.”
“Fuck yea, my man. Appreciate the deets. Let’s grab some beers, alright?”
“You got it!”
They bring it in for a hug before Leo breaks away and tells Marcus, “They are going to Lummus Park Beach.”
“Yea, I heard.”
“Very nice beach. Supposed to be amazing.”
“Yea, whatever,” Welsh’s pride is hurt. He looks into the crowd, “Where’s that woman, the one that wanted to be purged?”
They head back toward the people but instead of finding the friendly, rowdy fans they encounter some angry locals. They are holding signs that say ‘Stay Away!’ and ‘Cursed!’ and ‘You’re all going to die!’
“You guys sure you’re in the right place?”
“The TRIAD is cursed and so will you be if you don’t turn around!”
Welsh leans into Leo, “Who are these people?” Leo has no answer.
“It’s meant to stay lost! Do not disturb what’s meant to stay lost!”
“Okay, alright, listen…”
“Cursed! Cursed! Cursed!” They chant. One person throws some water in his face…holy water, maybe. Welsh stumbles back, holding his eye.
“Security!” Leo yells. Some of the Triad employees head forward and forcefully push the angry, threatening mob away. “Here you go, sir,”
Welsh takes a napkin from Leo to wipe his eyes dry, “What’s their problem?”
“Yea, this Triad thing, sir. Well…some people are kinda weird about it. They think it’s dangerous. Like, I met this guy a week or so back, and he…”
Welsh cuts Leo off, handing him the napkin, “We don’t have time for your life story, Leo. Let’s go check out this beach and, after that, I want you to find out what LCP and Penelope’s vices are. We need to ensure victory.”
